"Archie Moore came to Phoenix and took a match with wrestler Mike DiBiase. The match was set for 10-rounds, and was a challenge affair stemming from a previous bout that Moore had refereed. Needless to say, Mike was no match..Mike was taking a pretty good licking, but a cut eye was the cause of stopping the bout."

The official scoring on rounds was 5-4-1, 6-3-1, and 6-3-1. Johnson's two best rounds were the second and fifth, in both of which he hurt Moore, but he failed to follow up on his advantage either time. Moore slowed Johnson down with a rally in the last minute of the sixth round and won the 7th, 8th, and 9th rounds handily. Johnson slipped to the floor after a beating in the 9th, but the referee ruled it a slip.

"It was a terrific battle..The first round was even as both boys landed sharp punches. Williams gained the second round with a good left jab. Moore ended fast to gain the third round. It was in the fourth round that Williams staggered Moore with a terrific left hook which had him reeling at the bell. Moore came on in the fifth to even matters. Archie came on in the sixth to gain the lead as he landed with both hands. In the seventh Moore worked Williams against the ropes and dropped him for the full count with a smashing right that had Williams dazed for many minutes after the fight." Bivins took a terrific whipping. After two quiet rounds, Moore knocked him down for a 4-count in round three and won round four by a wide margin. Archie took a thumb in his left eye in round six, dropped to one knee, and claimed a foul. But the referee didn't see it and told Moore to get up or he would be the loser. He did get to his feet and took severe punishment in the last 30 seconds of the round. In round seven, Moore was recovered and put Bivins on the ropes where he took a six-count. Bivins was down again in round eight and did not answer the bell for the ninth. (from The Ring, February 1948, page 54)

Moore had a comfortable margin at the end of the fight. "It was a grand contest, full of action. Moore won because of his superior skill at in-fighting." Richards was ahead on points (by a close margin) after six rounds, but tired and couldn't keep pace with Archie.

Fred Henneberry was hit low in the seventh round and after a rest of nine minutes could not continue. Moore was slightly ahead on point at the time, but seemed to be taking control. Henneberry was the aggressor, but Moore was better at evading punches and landed the cleaner blows. The ending was controversial because Henneberry was wearing a protector, but there was no doubt that he was badly hurt by the low blow. A no-foul rule was in force and all the referee could do was give Henneberrry a chance to recover, which he could not do.

Moore had Sabatino in trouble from nearly the beginning of the fight. Atilio suffered a cut over his left eye in the third round. Moore cleverly blocked his attempted body punches and kept up a stream of lefts himself. In the fifth, Archie sent Sabatino through the ropes with uppercuts and kept up a relentless attack. The fight was stopped between rounds to save Sabatino from further punishment.

Moore was down for a 6-count in the first round. Richards won each of the first three rounds, but Moore improved in the fourth and took charge in the fifth. Richards suffered right eye damage in the sixth round. Moore punished Richards, especially with lefts, until the referee examined Richards' injuries and stopped the fight in round ten.Attendance 9000

Called a technical draw in the 8th round due to a low blow by Moore, since under the rules of the city athletic commission no fighter could win or lose a fight on a foul. Referee McIndoo stated after the fight that unless Dixon, who had been floored in round 4, had scored a knockdown or two in the last two rounds, Moore would have been an easy winner. This was a rematch of the fiasco between Moore and Coggins of July 21. "The boys worked hard, but just seemed unable to find any vulnerable spots, with the result they spent most of the time in clinches, hammering away to the body." Coggins suffered a left-eye injury in the and later a badly cut lip. After five slow rounds the fighters opened up a bit.

Moore was down for no count in round one. Coggins went down twice in the third round "from blows which wouldn't have killed a mouse." After that Moore landed numerous light blows and an occasional solid wallop. Following several warnings to the effect that more action and effort were needed, the referee called it "no contest" in round eight.

Moore was dangerous all the way, and Yarosz was just smart enough to keep his chin in the clear." Moore was the aggressor, except for the last two rounds, when Teddy, feeling that Archie had spent his heaviest fire, took chances with Moore's Sunday punches. Yarosz was simply too clever for Moore at this stage of his career. However, Ray Arcel (Yarosz's trainer) said about Moore: "He'll be a great fighter in a year from now. All he needs is experience." Also, reported in the St.Louis Globe-Democrat (Jack Kincaid).
