The records of both Cocoa Kid and Bell, in various editions of The Ring Record Book, give the result as a draw as does the Chicago Tribune. Also, the report of Gene Engel in The Ring, April 1947, page 48, indicate that the result was a draw. Cocoa Kid was down for a 9-count in round two, but came back and evened up the fight by "boxing beautifully."

Cocoa Kid was knocked down four times. Brown however felt that none of the blows leading to the knockdowns were hard, and declared the bout a no-contest. Cocoa Kid's purse was upheld, and he was suspended for six months and fined $500 by the California Commission, who felt he threw the fight. Oakland Tribune

"One crushing counter to the head in the third round won the bout for Cocoa Kid. His swinging right landed flush on the Canadian's jaw and left Sonny in such straights that he became a backstop. Another right opened a cut over Sonny's left eye. Jones could hardly see but he stood up bravely until Referee Jack Sharkey of Boston halted the match." - Associated Press

5700 fans attended fight but the scrap was tame. New Orleans Picayune The Times-Picayune said that Cocoa did not look as good as in his previous fights in New Orleans. "Williams was in he best shape he has ever shown here..He was loping arounds as fast at the finish as at the start. He tried several different styles..but mostly he was working to get inside and then punch to the body." (The theme runs through the descriptions of the fights between Cocoa and Williams that the Kid was better at long distance and Williams scored well on the inside.)

This appears to have been the only fight between Cocoa Kid and Casper LaRosa. The supposed fight between them on August 18, 1936 in New Haven CT, can't be traced. There was a program in that city on August 17, but it consisted of eight 4-rounders, with no mention of Cocoa and LaRosa.
