Culver City Arena, Culver City, California, USA
Fulton "took a dive" 35 seconds after the opening bell, it was later determined. The crowd rioted and threw "storms of cushions into the ring." (AP) It was later alleged Fulton had taken an extra $7,500 to "lie down." His manager admitted to investigating boxing officials that Fulton had warned his friends to refrain from betting on him. Fulton was arrested for violating state law prohibiting prize-fighting; meanwhile authorities searched for Fuente, who dumped manager Winsor. Fulton later proclaimed he was done with boxing, because of this whole mess.

Fulton floundered and Dempsey stepped back, then hooked a left to the giant's head and a terrific right to the point of the chin. The big man tottered and fell sideways to the floor of the ring, his head resting on his right arm, which pinned down the lower rope of the three which encircled the ring. He tried to push himself up, but collapsed and had to be dragged back to his corner.

League Park, Canton, Ohio, USA
The bout was ended after Morris had fouled Fulton so often that Referee Hinkel was obliged to disqualify the Oklahoman. The contest was to have decided which of the two was the better qualified to meet Jess Willard in a heavyweight title match. Newspapers reported that Morris "violated every rule of boxing and of good sportsmanship." Once in the fifth and again in the sixth, Fulton wanted to stop fighting because of Morris' constant butting and the ref's seeming indifference to it. At one point, Fulton started to leave the ring but was stopped by Harry Wills who was working his corner.
