"A crowd of 12, 000 saw Liston, of Denver, Colo., flatten Zech with a short left-right combination. The German, his face and shoulders covered with blood from a cut over his right eye, got up reeling at the count of 10, but it was too late." (Associated Press)

The bout between Mildenberger and Zech, with the former's European title at stake, was monotonous and uneventful as experts had predicted.
The Luxembourg referee issued several warnings but the team-mates knew each other's style from A to Z and every move was cancelled before it could begin.
The bout ended with a win for Mildenberger and the boxers left the ring to a storm of boos from the 8, 000 spectators.

In the fourth round Bygraves caught the taller Zech unawares with a terrific left hook to the chin which floored Zech. Up at "9", but still dizzy, Zech was an easy target for the Jamaican, who slung another left hook to fell the German again, whereupon his corner skied the towel.

Zech almost fought himself to a standstill in his efforts to knockout Cab, but Cab proved too evasive for Zech's heavy slams to concede a points decision to the blond Teuton.

"Zech scored with hefty smashes and after eight robust rounds, Zech was awarded the decision by the narrowest of margins." However, according to Box-Sport, this was a 10-rounder.

Zech failed to attract many fans in his first billing as a main attraction, particularly since his opponent Strocchio, a third-rater from the Riviera hadn't fought since his knockout defeat to Sante Amonti in 1958. Strocchio was duly counted out in the opening round.

Bozzano, the handsome and debonair heavyweight ace from Genoa was matched with unknown German Gerhard Zech. Zech who had only eight paid bouts to his credit and no amateur experience figured to be another massive pushover. But Bozzano was obviously ring-rusty and in the second round the Berlin southpaw slammed a hefty right-hander to the Italian's ribs. Swift as light, he threw a left hook hook at Bozzano's chin and the Italian crumpled to the canvas - out cold.
