(Nevada State Journal) This was a cautious, slow bout and Pal Moore was the aggressor in what little fighting was done. The Memphis Commercial-Appeal gave Pal Moore a slight shade while Referee Billy Haack stated afterwards that he would have declared the bout a draw. The fight was changed to a ND contest on the day of the bout after Mandell weighed in above the contracted 120lb limit for the fight due To Pal Moore's refusal to engage in a decision bout with the weight disadvantage.

"Pal Moore was thoroughly defeated by Mike Ertle, with Moore surprisingly only winning one round, that being the 8th." St. Paul Pioneer Press 11-11-1919. Newspaper decision. UPDATE: Although a newspaper decision, Referee Barton gave Moore a slight shade in the bout. *This bout was a newspaper verdict for Ertle according to every Minnesota paper, most saying it was not even close.

This was a great fight, filled to the brim with action. In general, Americans seem to have seen Moore as the winner and the British favored Wilde. According to the British, Moore did not "hit correctly, " by which they meant that he tended to use the open glove, and this must have cost him points with the British referee. Wilde was in serious trouble in rounds 16 and 17 but came back with a fast finish.
