Levinsky's purse was withheld while the state athletic commission investigated his conduct in the ring. Chairman Joseph Triner thought that Levinsky had showed little respect for Referee Collins. Levinsky shoved Collins about the ring and on one occasion reached over the official's shoulder for a punch at Griffith(s). Griffith claimed to have suffered a fracture of his right thumb early in the bout. Griffith was down in the 3rd and 7th rounds, but arose immediately each time.

"Griffiths [sic] showed the greatest fighting ability he has ever displayed here in his victory over the Australian.... The knockout came shortly before two minutes of the fourth round had elapsed. Tuffy sent the Australian to the floor with a left hook to the jaw and Cook was down for a count of nine. A second later Griffiths landed another left hook to the jaw and Cook went down again. Then another left hook sent the Australian to the floor and Cook's seconds threw in the towel." (UP)

Griffith "was far ahead on points when the end came and he had the German backing up from the first round. The knockout was scored as a technical. Griffiths [sic] connected squarely with his right and Haymann fell. Too stunned to realize the possible value of a count, the Dutchman rose again before the lefts and rights of the Iowan. Again he rose, more slowly, and one punch sent him into the arms of Referee Jack Dorman, who stopped the fight. It was the first fight of the indoor season at Madison Square Garden and attracted 13,000." (UP)
