Savold, a 7-5 favorite, down for a six count in the first; Franklin ahead on cards into the tenth. but Savold was the "complete master" from the eighth round on. Lee fought with a badly swollen eye from the third round, but by the ninth Franklin also had one eye swollen and closed and had bad cuts of the nose and mouth. A terrific right to the jaw finished the fight in the tenth. It was a sensational fight.

Minneapolis "one-night" version of heavyweight "white hope" tournaments that were being held around the country as a reaction to Joe Louis' ascendancy. By defeating Schulz in the feature card of the evening, Savold became the Class A titlist on a 21-bout card that included 9 knockouts. The tournament featured three classes: A, B, and C. Information from the Duluth Herald.
