It was suspected that a fix was on, and the Club's president instructed the referee after the 2nd round to announce that all bets on the result were off. "After the eighteenth round the contest grew decidedly uninteresting, and from the twenty-fourth to the thirty-fourth and last round neither man landed a blow. The referee had cautioned them that unless they made some attempt at fighting he would declare the match "no contest," and that neither man would receive a cent." (SF Morning Call)

The fight lasted five hours and fifty-five minutes. It was fought in the Germania hall. After 37th and until the 70th round it was very tame, with hardly a blow struck on either side. In the 71st White attempted a rally, but couldn't put his man out and was exhausted by his own efforts, so that the remaining rounds were tame again. In the 81st the referee warned the fighters that he gives them 10 more rounds to do something, or he would stop the fight, which he did, calling it a draw in the 91st round.
Non-local sources erroneously give the date of the bout as December 7, while it was fought on Saturday (Dec. 6) according to local newspapers Morning World-Herald and Omaha Daily Bee.
