Greb battered Borrell in the first round and had him in bad shape. Joe took another drubbing in the 2nd including a 9-count. He held as much as he could in the third but soaked up more punishment. Borrell took an 8-count in round four. By now the crowd was calling for a halt. In the 5th, Greb hammered Borrell so badly that Joe rushed to his corner and turned his back, and the referee finally stopped the slaughter.

This fight was stopped because of a cut over the left eye sustained by Borrell. Evidently Wolgast should have won by a technical knockout, but the newspapers gave various results. Greb won the newspaper decision according to the Pittsburgh Post. Greb fought his usual busy, tearaway style. Borrell ws kept so busy on the defense that he didn't land enough blows. However, he made Greb miss a great deal, and landed well whenever he had the opportunity. Borrell won the first round, as Greb appeared tentative (apparently remembering the trouble Borrell had given him in the past). Harry won the remaining five, the second and sixth being his best. Borrell was groggy in the 6th and was jarred badly in the 2nd and 4th. Greb won the 3rd and 5th by small margins.

Newspaper draw according to the Pittsburgh Post. "Greb won the first two rounds decisively..Borrell got going in the third in which the honors, which were very slight, went to Greb. The fourth round was even..Joe got inside in the 5th and won that round. In the 6th, Borrell kept on Greb, pummeling his body with heavy smashes to win the round and even up the fight. It appeared that Borrell would have won if he had "started sooner." Also given as a draw in "Fearless Harry Greb," in which the fight is described in detail.

Billed for World title at 160lbs. Blake clinched so much that Borrell had trouble landing a clean blow. He was trying to keep the fight at long range in the fourth round. At the bell ending the fourth Borrell landed a right to the jaw which put Blake down and out. Evidently Blake had heard the bell and was turning away, but neither Borrell nor the referee heard it. Under the circumstances, and since Blake could not continue, the referee decided that the fairest outcome was to call the fight "no contest," and did so.

Lewis had been badly injured in a traffic accident in the previous spring. He was attempting to resume his boxing career, but had nothing left but courage. After this fight, he lingered near death for several days, suffering paralysis of the left side, after which he slowly recovered. He never boxed again.
