Mandot outboxed Cross for 8 rounds, flooring him for no-counts in the fourth and fifth rounds. But Cross turned the tide in the ninth with a crushing right that floored Mandot. Joe went down four more times in the ninth and was quickly stopped in the tenth when the towel was thrown in the ring. (from New Orleans Times-Democrat).

This was the only bout on the card that was no-decision. Ritchie won the newspaper decision according to the New Orleans Daily Picayune (Luckett Davis), which stated that the bout was fairly even up until the final round, when Ritchie cut loose, hurt Mandot and secured the newspaper verdict. The New Orleans Item had Mandot winning 5-3 in rounds, two even. It stated that Mandot had a good lead after the ninth and that Ritchie's furious last round rally gave him a draw- "After all was over Joe had a very slight shade, but a draw looks the right decision." Referee Barnes thought Mandot had a shade, but would have called it a draw had he rendered a decision.
