"[A]fter sparring during the entire first round, Lomski came out for the second swinging both hands and soon had McRae on the floor. The Tulsa boy got up at the count of seven, but was immediately floored for the count again.... The bout was the first of a series in a projected comeback tour for Lomski.... [He] showed the effects of his long lay-off from the ring as he was rather slow, but he still retains his hitting ability." Everett Daily Herald.

Lomski knocked down in 2d and 5th; the judges split, and the referee called it a draw. Afterward Referee Miller said he had "erred" in his arithmetic on the original scorecard. The decision was then reversed in Lomski's favor on January 28 by the Illinois State Athletic Commission and became known as the "11-day decision."

After each round he announced, via a score board, his decision on that round and fans were enabled to tell at all times just how the match was going. The decision was popular too as Lomski's victory was a clean cut one and Belanger was forced to hang on weakly several times." (United Press)

Lomski was the aggressor and on the verge of a knockout but the bell saved McTigue, who "beat a hasty retreat" in the first three rounds, which caused the crowd to boo their displeasure. McTigue then cut loose with rights to the head, which opened an old wound over Lomski's left eye. In the fifth, Lomski showered McTigue's head with both fists, ripping a cut on the forehead and over McTigue's left eye. McTigue's left ripped a cut an inch long under Lomski's right eye. McTigue staggered in the seventh and eighth, enjoyed a brief rally in the ninth, and retreated before a hard two-fisted bombardment in the tenth. Associated Press
