"The punch that turned the sympathies of the crowd to the veteran Spaniard and the tide of the battle to Walker came after the bell ended the eighth round. Paulino had landed a left hook to the body just after the bell. But he dropped his hands and stepped back and, as he did, Walker swung a right that split the Spaniard's left eyebrow wide open. That blow beat Paulino for Walker opened the cut with the first punch in the ninth round and, blinded by blood, Paulino could do little from then on." (Associated Press)

"Paolino confounded those who thought he was on the ragged edge as a fighter, and confounded some 17000 fight fans in Madison Square Garden last night with one of the greatest demonstrations of true fighting courage a local ring has produced in years. Battered and pounded in the first round, rocked and staggered until many thought the gallant Spaniard could not survive the storm that buffeted him, Paolino came back to conquer Otto von Porat, solemn-visaged Scandinavian heavyweight, in a 10 round struggle that was savagely fought, carried along at a burning pace and held enough thrills to satisfy the most exacting fight fan." Ebbet's Field, Brooklyn, New York, USA
"Uzcudun was disqualified for hitting the mid-westerner while Peterson lay unconscious, his head hung over the middle rope. Peterson, after holding the Basque even in the first round, collided with Paulino's burly left hook to the head in the second and went down for a nine-count. As he staggered to his feet, almost helpless, the Spaniard swarmed all over him with crushing short-arm jolts to the head and body. Peterson reeled into his own corner under the barrage and collapsed as Paulino nailed him cleanly with both hands to the head. The mid-westerner went down and out, but Paulino, in his anxiety, applied one punch more than was necessary. He hit Peterson, slipping past Referee Magnolia's guard to do so, and was promptly disqualified and the victory awarded to the unconscious battler." (Ironwood Daily Globe)
Peterson was a late substitute for Roberto Roberti, who had been forced to withdraw from the bout because of two fractured ribs

Wills was dropped to the canvas for a count of nine, and arose only to run into a volley of lefts and rights that put him under the lower rope, where he lay supported on his elbows while Referee Lou Magnolia counted him out. Uzcudun had cast aside his contract with Tex Rickard to fight Wills, after having been dropped from Rickard's heavyweight elimination tournament when Jack Dempsey refused to engage in more than one preliminary bout leading to a fight with Gene Tunney. Rickard's original plan was to match Uzcudun with Dempsey and have the winner meet the survivor of the Jack Sharkey-Jimmy Maloney bout. (AP)
