time: 0:20   referee: Paul Cavalier
The 5th round was a couple of minutes old when their heads collided with such a thud that could be heard in the back row. At the bell Mims went to his corner with blood gushing from a gaping slice over his left eye. Ring Physician William Cassio examined the wound but allowed the fight to continue. Adair lost no time in the 6th in pounding across a right that started blood to dip anew down Mims' face. Referee Paul Cavalier, who had the bout even (2-2-1), lost no time and called the fight off. This was the only time in Mims's long career that he was stopped.
