Reported in the Newark Evening News (Herb Goldman). It was a very close fight until the tenth round, when Terry made a great rally. Also, "When the match was over and Terry was standing in his corner..a disgruntled fan yelled at him 'Terry, you're a bum!' Terry turned quickly, said 'Thank you,' in his usual polite manner, and added "I'll try and do better the next time.' The heckler disappeared as quickly as if swallowed by a hole in the ground."

"Young Terry, a virtually unknown fighter from Trenton, N.J., loomed today as a worthy contender for the world's middleweight championship left vacant by the retirement of Mickey Walker.... The slugging Jerseyite opened the bout with a rush and piled up a big early lead, earning a clear advantage in the five rounds, and successfully halted Fields' rally in the closing rounds."
