Newspaper decision from the Youngstown Vindicator
Willard was a late replacement for an ill Battling Levinsky. Willard refused to release his weight. Referee was "Kelly". New Castle News had it 8-2-2 for McMahon; Wisconsin State Journal (wire)also for McMahon. The Pittsburgh Postalso had McMahon as the winner. McMahon took the fight directly to Willard, evading the giant's clinches and striking often to the head and body, especially the liver. Willard seemed content to box using a long left jab to keep McMahon at bay, but the Newcastle boy was relentless.
