Savold, a 7-5 favorite, down for a six count in the first; Franklin ahead on cards into the tenth. but Savold was the "complete master" from the eighth round on. Lee fought with a badly swollen eye from the third round, but by the ninth Franklin also had one eye swollen and closed and had bad cuts of the nose and mouth. A terrific right to the jaw finished the fight in the tenth. It was a sensational fight.

Franklin landed heavily in the first two rounds and wore himself out. Brown outboxed him after that. The referee voted for Franklin, one judge for a draw, and the other marked his ballot "no contest," for some reason. Evidently this was interpreted as a vote for a draw.

Belanger's ring generalship enabled him to elude a knockout. According to Bob Soderman, who attended, Charley had to use every trick in his reportoire to go the full distance. This fight is shown incorrectly as a 10-rounder in Franklin's published record.

Franklin's pro debut. His published record does not include a fight on this date, but includes an erroneous fight with Williams on November 3. Franklin had won the International Amateur Heavyweight Championship, beating Herman Runge of Germany earlier in the year. Williams was very cagy and fought in a shell to take the decision. Franklin landed his first hard, clean punch in round six and it broke Williams's nose.
