This was part of the third round of a world flyweight elimination tournament sponsored by the Shamrock Athletic Club, with the winner to meet Eugene Huat. There was a companion flyweight elimination tournament being held by Tom McArdle in New York at this time. Toronto's Globe newspaper reported that Tex Rickard had started a world fly tourney earlier in New York City, but he did not finish it due to the small crowds. Toronto, however, always had drawn big crowds for the "little guys."

"Jack Terry floored Happy Atherton for the count of nine in the first round, but the latter was gaining headway, when the referee stopped the bout in the third round and awarded it to Atherton for Terry's alleged rabbit (punching) and then sent them back again for another round and disqualified Terry again. It was a new interpretation of rabbit-punching to local fans, as the disqualified man was not using the heel of his glove, but the clenched fist to the back of the head. As long as it lasted, it was a good bout." (Indianapolis Star)

"Middletown, O., won't recognize Jimmy Gordon when he gets home, for he will have a considerably disfigured countenance, consisting in part of a very, very black eye and a badly battered nose. Happy Atherton, star local flyweight, must be held to account for all of this, The two met in the third bout of the card, an eightround affair and after three sessions of fast moving, Jimmy was merely in the way. Happy socked him from pilar to post, made a big black puff out of his right eye and cut his nose so badly it bled profusely throughout the later rounds of the bout." (Indianapolis Star)
