Walsh claims World Bantamweight title
AP reports state Attell carried from ring after an accidental low blow
Daily Kennebec Journal reports Attell awarded the bout because of the low blow--Boston Globe agrees--also Walsh and his seconds were arrested by order of a Captain Thompson. Referee McGuigan announced that Walsh had fouled Attell. Walsh was dominating the fight and the low blow was clearly accidental--"An easy victory for Walsh was assured until after two minutes and 35 seconds of the last round had expired, when the foul was committed." Boston Globe. It certainly appears from this report that Attell was awarded the fight on a foul. Walsh claims bantamweight title off of many wire reports that had him winning by TKO...The Philadelphia Item gave an account that, summed up, makes it clear that Walsh was winning easily until he fouled Attell. The Item also stated that the so-called low blow that ended the fight appeared to have been fair, but there is no doubt that the referee disqualified Walsh.
