KO4/15
Vista Allegre Bull Ring, Panama City, Panama
Ross arrived in Panama on or about June 14. His brother, Wirt Ross, was in the navy and also promoted fights. Ansel was said to be a Frenchman, but did not have much success as a fighter in Panama. However, he became a boxing coach and began to teach the sport to young Panamanians, thereby having a big impact on Panamanian boxing. (From the Panama Star % Herald)

Filz of the U.S. Monterrey gave Ross his best fight in the islands. It was nip and tuck until the last two rounds, when Filz weakened and Ross forged ahead. It was one of the best fights seen locally in some time. Ross left for the United States and his home on the farm in Kentucky on May 16.

Blackburn was demoralized by Ross's lightning left jabs, but kept his feet until round 10. In the tenth, "Ross landed a stiff jab to Joe's face and followed it with a vicious right which sent the dusky doughboy rolling over the ropes." Joe got to his feet before the count was completed but the referee humanely stopped it."
