World Welterweight Title
Advertised as a Non-Title bout, but should be considered a world title fight. The promoter and the two fighters prepared for a world title fight, but Harvey Miller, secretary of the NBA, said the NBA would not sanction it because Manfredo was not one of the top three contenders for the crown. This doesn't make sense because Armstrong fought many fighters over the three years that he had a title and many also were probably not ranked in the top three and he previously fought Manfredo in a title fight 10 months ago.

This was a very good fight. Brown was the aggressor, and Manfredo the counterpuncher. The decision was first announced in Manfredo's favor, but an error was detected on one of the official scorecards, giving Brown the split verdict. The scoring: 54-46 for Manfredo; 51-49 for Brown; 52-46 for Brown. This fight was incorrectly shown as occuring in Detroit in the 1941 Ring Record Book.
