Re: The Jack ‘Kid’ Berg tapes
There's definitely some talk of his early life, growing up in the East End, etc, on the tapes. I'll try to find some interesting bits to share.

Re: The Jack ‘Kid’ Berg tapes
I actually listened to both earlier today on YouTube. Thanks so much for uploading, a really great record. Berg's mind was still sharp as a tack at the time of the interview. My pleasure. Glad they’re of interest. Yeah, it’s remarkable how sharp Berg was (he was about 76 when the interviews were re...

The Jack ‘Kid’ Berg tapes
A couple of years back, John Harding, author of the Jack ‘Kid’ Berg biography and other books, was kind enough to loan me a set of audio tapes of his interviews with Berg from 1986 for the purpose of digitisation. With John’s permission, I’ve started to publish extracts from the interviews online. T...

Re: Was Harry Greb Great?
I agree with that post as well. But it does leave a "mystery". IF you take someone from Harry's time and transport him to today I think there are two "loose cannon" factors or questions that may be somewhat mitigating to the excellent point made. 1. Has nutrition science made a ...

Re: Was Harry Greb Great?
Yes. The contrarian had an interesting point that sports that can be measured such as a mile run or swimming; those records have all been broken. Of course, boxing can't be measured like that. Evolution has it's place, but so does discipline and toughness. There are more distractions now, therefore...

http://static.boxrec.com/thumb/a/a7/FredMiller30.jpeg/200px-FredMiller30.jpeg How about Freddie Miller? He had around 250 fights, with just 29 defeats, in a 13-year pro career that took him to 12 countries. He was world champ from January 1933 until May ’36 and had 91 bouts in that time, with 11 su...

It was rarely mentioned in the British press then. You’re most likely to find it in a programme for one of his high-profile fights.

Yes, indeed. ...and it is a really good one from his grandson Alex Daley. One of the best-researched boxing history books I've ever read myself. However, AFAIK, it is out of print and very expensive in Amazon. Only couple of copies going at 133 dollars... It was called : Nipper: The Amazing Story o...

Re: Heavyweight 'prizefighter' 1969. Billy Aird, Richard Dunn,
Here's a flyweight one from 1929: http://boxrec.com/en/event/116968 The prize was £250. N.B. Lots of flyweights in Britain in those days. What's the equivalent in today's money? £250 was about a year's salary for an average working man in 1929. So not a bad sum then. Actually, tell a lie, I've been...

Some truly great fighters mentioned in this thread.
I can add the names of three more Jewish Brits who I think are worthy of inclusion: Harry Mason, Mike Honeyman and Young Joseph.

Hi Terrie
I know Miles well and I'm certain he'd have replied if he'd got your email. I can only guess it must have inadvertently gone to his junk mail.
I'll let him know about your query.

You could go out for a top night of good championship boxing and then get Dick and Randy Turpin boxing each other in an exhibition bout! Talk about bang for your ...
