Hi,
A thought I had the other day when looking at your site was how helpful it would be for each fight on someones record to be numbered. It would be very useful when looking at someones record because you could see at a glance how many fights someone had before they got beat, had a title shot or fought someone of note.
ie.
ROCKY MARCIANO
etc.. etc..
(5) Eddie Ross
(4) Bobby Quinn
(3) John Edwards
(2) Harry Bilazarian
(1) Lee Epperson
Maybe all new records could be done this way and the others done when someone had time to bother changing them.
Just a thought.
:-)

Re: re
Yeah, but that requires an extra click and often a fair bit of scrolling, to find the same fight on the opponent's record. It would be very convenient to have it all in one place, that's all. C'mon guys, we're talking about a few extra bytes per fight summary, and all the needed info in already there in the database.barry wrote:You can get a fighters record going into a fight by looking at the opponents record!
I've also been pushing the idea of adding the fighters' respective boxRec ranks at the time of the fight (not doing this for all fights in the DB, mind you - just starting now), but JohnShep didn't seem too keen on that. But ask yourself: how many times when discussing past fights have you wanted to say "So-and-so was ranked X at the time..."

Re: re
Yes but it means swapping in between records which is a pain. Also with fighter who has had lots of fights, ie. Archie Moore, it would be nice to see at a glance how many fights he had at any given fight, without having to manually count them on the screen or on a printout.barry wrote:You can get a fighters record going into a fight by looking at the opponents record!
Numbering each fight for every fighter takes up no more space in the database because it's not stored; it's a simple count function returned on the query and could be done easily and quickly.
Boxrec's rankings are computerized and not stored, as well. However, doing the calculation for every opponent would likely noticeably slow down the query time. Perhaps an admin knows better, though.
What I'd like to see added is the ko's of the opponent when you are looking at one guys record..so 25-3-2 (20), instead of 25-3-2.

It would also be very nice to have a one-letter field indicating the handedness of a fighter's opponents on his record, preferably with different colors for orthodox and southpaw, similar to the win-loss fields. If we used green for orthodox and red for southpaw, the opponents-handedness columns for both Rocky Marciano and Joe Mesi's would look like a golf fairway. (Though several of Mesi's opps. don't have handedness specified on their record.)
But so as to not confuse W/L with O/S, I suggest blue for orthodox and yellow for southpaw. (And I can assure you, the fact that those are the colors of my Alma Mater, U. of Michigan, has nothing whatsoever to do with my choices. ;))
