Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Upon watching this live on a choppy stream I thought it was a great KTFO, but upon reviewing slow-motion replays on YT it seems to me like Tupou was hardly touched by the 'finishing' punches and the right hand that does catch him looks relatively innocuous, certainly one of the weakest looking blows I've seen knock someone out cold in the ring like that.
Thoughts? Did Tupou simply get caught in a vulnerable spot by a good puncher?

I was skeptical, but watch it in slow-motion, frame-by-frame: Parker's right hand
lands on or near Tupou's right temple - incredibly rare shot. Real.

Looks real to me,i dont think it was a clean but the force of it and where it landed was enough to KO him, plus IMO the way he landed on the deck makes it look a clear legit KO,

Legit KO, no doubt in my mind. You just can't fall that way "playing the role". It's etremely rare thing to see somebody get knocked out cold from seemingly a glancing blow to the forehead, but do you rememer Vitali vs Hide fight? Vitaly KTFO'ed Hide with glancing blow rather not by his fist, but his wrist or forearm. In both of this fights KO's are really legit, I'm 100% sure.crusader wrote:Upon watching this live on a choppy stream I thought it was a great KTFO, but upon reviewing slow-motion replays on YT it seems to me like Tupou was hardly touched by the 'finishing' punches and the right hand that does catch him looks relatively innocuous, certainly one of the weakest looking blows I've seen knock someone out cold in the ring like that.

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
I see what you're saying. The punch does land in a vulnerable spot and Parker can whack...not to mention that Tupou hasn't shown the greatest chin. I think that would still have to go down as the weakest looking blow I've seen knock a boxer cold though.
Parker is one of my favorites to watch and I hope he's stepped up soon.

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Parker now has 3 one-punch brutal KO's in his last 4 fights. Not bad for a 23 y.o. prospect. Would like to see him against Ustinov next.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Apparently his next fight will be on October 15th and it seems like Kali Meehan is a likely opponent.

It was announced that Parker's next fight would come on October 15th in Auckland with the promise of a genuine, top-ranked opponent. When quizzed as to the likelihood of that opponent being Kali Meehan, promoter David Higgins could only offer a knowing glance.
"It's possibly the biggest fight New Zealand's ever had," stated Higgins.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
I'd vote if given an option of not sure. It's really hard to tell. People have been killed by punches while fans were screaming "Fix."
Reminded me of Wilder-Scott and Tyson-Seldon. Some fans think if they don't see a neck snap the punch didn't do much damage. But I do not believe that is always the case.

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
He landed a loaded up right on the top of Tupou's forehead. Legit 100% for me. The punch delivered, Tupou's legs and the way he fell confirm it for me.
If you notice afterwards in the ring, Parker is shaking his right hand and that is just the kind of shot that would damage it, bang on the forehead. You can see the power in it and how Parker's wrist bends.

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
It was a monstrous right hand landed right at the temple. You can see it clearly on the replay. Contact, speed and power are all there. No controversy at all for me.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
I would like to hear from boxing trainers and boxers on the topic of a punch causing great damage but not looking like much of a shot. Think Wilder-Scott, Tyson-Seldon and this fight. I'm just a humble fan and would like to hear from those who've been in the ring as a fighter or trainer.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
I think this one looks like very much of a shot. Wilder/Scott did not look much but it is possible it was hurtful punch. Although in that occasion Scott was not knocked out, rather he decided to quit.Tony1244 wrote:I would like to hear from boxing trainers and boxers on the topic of a punch causing great damage but not looking like much of a shot. It landed on the temple solidly and then grazed off. Very solid shot on one of the most vulnerable locations.
A real KTFO moment, and I honestly think Tupou should retire now.

Looked like a flush left hook to me

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
It seems every time a heavyweight gets stopped by a blow that doesn't land flush there is someone pushing the angle he took a dive. These guys are 220 pounds plus. Spend their lives continually smashing bags and people and as a result learn to hit fooking hard. They don't always need to hit you flush with their sledgehammers to stop you.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Parker caught him coming in with a short hard punch that put him out. Period. End of story. It was Tupou not a young Ray Mercer.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Tupou would probably fall down if Wilder or Joshua looked at him.
Not taking away from Parker. I do think it was a legit punch, but far from a statement to fight one of the above guys, although I would love to see it.

It was the biggest statement available to Parker on the night.Badhusker wrote:Tupou would probably fall down if Wilder or Joshua looked at him.![]()

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Parker's opposition has been similar to Joshua's in my opinion and he's arguably scored the heavier knockouts of the two. He's also been moved at a much faster pace than Wilder was at the same points in his career.
I don't expect fights between any of these guys for a while, but Parker very much belongs with AJ in the discussion of the top up and coming HWs and in my view he'd one of Wilder's best opponents to date; in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if he were able to beat Stiverne and Scott even now.

Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
If it wasn't for the massive thud that could be heard as the right hit I would have been very suss, the punch hit him in the middle of the top of his head, not the temple, I had a trainer who was kod that exact way years ago
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
The Dillian Whyte fight looked far more suspect.
Re: Parker-Tupou: suspicious KO?
Yeah I can't believe that anyone sees it any other way. Watch the replay, note the point of the impact on the temple, and see the instantaneous affect. Jeez, it's really not a peculiar knockout.Tarkus wrote:It was a monstrous right hand landed right at the temple. You can see it clearly on the replay. Contact, speed and power are all there.
