Sad News...Poster of the Past
Sad News...Poster of the Past
Guys
I have some sad news I'm afraid. Former poster and editor from Boxrec, Tomato Can, passed away earlier today, at 3.35am Washington time
Mark was in his 50's and suffered from a longstanding illness, and leaves behind a wife of 25 odd years, Ruby
I think it's fair to say that many of us remember TC as one of the most knowledgable boxing posters we've come across on these message boards. He was also incredibly witty, funny, and had a way of getting to the very heart of an issue, usually in a way most of us would never had thought of. I for one, loved reading what he had to say as it was never dull or boring and he certainly made me think about things from a different perspective. He was a champion of the underdog, and in a way thats what what the sport of boxing is about
If anyone feels the need to send his wife Ruby a card or email, please pm me
RIP Mark Hartman
No more pain, mate

That is upsetting. All the best to his family. :(
Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
One of the first posters here, and truly knowledgeable and a great contributor. He will be sorely missed. Condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in peace.
Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
I never really got the chance to chat with him but he was definitely one of the posters who drew me into the site, as you say extremely knowledgeable and very very witty.
All the best to him family.

Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
This is just awful news....
Mark was not only one of Boxrec's old guard, one of our most knowledgeable, prolific and funny posters and a man who truly loved the sport but above all a wonderful human being.
Farewell my great friend.

Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
That's very sad news. He was one of my favorite posters on the forum when I first joined Boxrec and I was very happy when he made a short-lived comeback on the forum a few years ago. Rest in Peace Tomato.
Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
Mark lives on in every entry he made to the Boxrec database
Almost 40,000 of them...
Almost 40,000 of them...
Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
Well said Bronc. Mark's wife will love reading the glowing tributes from you guys
Does anyone remember the name of the fighter who once challenged TC to a fistfight at a Washington's main bus terminal? TC had verbally KO'd him here and out of frustration the fella wanted to meet him to square the ledger
The guy's record was something like 15-215 so my money would have been on TC

Robsteth, I will do everything I can to get you reinstated but first you must meet my three demands:
1. Respond to all your useless posts in the future ya bastaad. Including this one.
2. Seek psychiatric care to help you get over this fantasy that you are a writer of any kind.
3. PM me so I can give you the addresss to send the $90 ban lifting fee.
4. Send me your Social Security number and your ID number on a major credit card.
5. Send me a Korean/Chinese/Tanganyikan women to pet and play with
Disrespectfully Up Yours

Toll ten bells for the fallen champion.
I found him to be clever, knowledgeable and he did great research.
RIP TC

Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
Is there any chance someone can sticky the thread?
Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
Oh yes I'd forgotten about that one..."reports of Robsdeath have been greatly exaggerated"
Some years ago there was a report of the authorities repealing Jack Johnson's criminal record which was designed solely to keep Jack down. Everyone said it was a great idea but not TC. He said they should leave it as is, as a vivid reminder of what they did to Jack based on nothing more than the colour of hi skin. Typical TC, brilliant stuff

Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
It's a real pity that the regular posters from the West Coast thread and TC's paths didn't cross. I think you would have appreciated his indepth boxing knowledge and stories, and he certainly would have appreciated yoursdagosd2000 wrote:I remember him when I was surfing the other threads. Re: Sad News...Poster of the Past
RIP, TC.
One of the main reasons for me signing up here in the first place, and although there was little overlap in our times here, he was a poster that I greatly respected. One of the few who managed to combine a wealth of knowledge about the sport with a fantastic, razor-sharp wit. If the man's considered a great loss to people that he hardly knew, I can only imagine what he must have meant to those around him. My condolences to his family and friends.

He hasn't been around in a while and was missed. He had over 37,500 bout inserts to the data base ![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)
