I saw him many years ago. Laffita was a World junior champ in Havanna in 1996. He's a southpaw, saw him lose to Maikro Romero once, he was soundly outboxed. He must be some 27 years now.

Looks like Zou Shi Ming, China, and Bartelemy had a good bout. I look forward to seeing how Ming pulled off the win. We lost two yesterday and have our 51 and 54 kgs going into the semis. Luckily for us, Cuba is on the bottom bracket. :o

Congrats to Neil Perkins for his win and good luck against Nurudinov (BLR). Our guy lost so I'm pulling for Neil!

As a brit CONGRATULATIONS to Neil Perkins and we will not see it on mainline tv-if only Amir Khan could be here.

Our two US boxers, Warren and Russell lost in the semis. But congrats to Perkins (ENG) and our two for medaling. The Worlds is a tough competition - dominated by Cuba and Eastern Europe. Interestingly enough, Cuba only has 5 going into the finals I'll bet Castro isn't happy!) - wonder if this means they are rebuilding, as they periodically do; Russia has 4; AZE and KAZ have 2. IF the USSR had not split up, there are 15 boxers from the former USSR countries competing in the finals.

Semifinal results on my web site.

Russell Cup went to Guillermo Rigondeaux as the best boxer of the tournament. He has established himself as the pound for pound best amateur in the world so it was about time he got a price. I think he should have been awarded the Val Barker trophy at the 2000 Olympics.

How did Gamboa's semi go...was he beat on the 20 point rule or plain TKO'd......It's a shame he had to move two weights, I'm assuming he did this to avoid Rigondeaux....I think he would have had a better chance beating Rigo than being a success at Feather

Gamboa was cut when leading 11-6 in the semi-final, he would for sure have won that bout. I thought he would find it difficult at feather but apparently he did very well. He clearly beat olympic silver medallist Song Guk Kim too.
