McKenzie - McAuley

1. 9 - 10
2. 9 - 10
3. 9 - 10
4. 9 - 10
5. 9 - 10
6. 10 - 9
7. 8 - 10
8. 9 - 10
9. 10 - 9
10. 10 - 10
11. 9 - 10
12. 9 - 10

118-110 McAuley

McAuley dominated and McKenzie looked clumsy and even inept throughout most of the fight.

Also, McKenzie kept ducking below his waist on a regular basis, which is against the rules and just seemed like a pathetic and ineffective move.

I watched McKenzie's fight with Flynn, although it was pretty much one way traffic, the courage shown by Danny is to be admired and his recouparative powers are the like ive hardly ever seen,he kept getting hurt then springing back to life

If anyone watches this, check him out rising from the 2nd KD in the 3rd round,he was flat on his back by about 8 then by 10 he was ready to fight again, kinda reminded me of one of the KD's Moore suffered against Durelle when you thought no way Archie was getting up

Great wee tussle

Yes, it was a good little fight.

Did you bother with the McAuley one?

Duke McKenzie vs Dave McAuley.
Having been in with someone like Bassa twice and given a more than decent account of himself....Dave had nothing to fear and actually had every reason to still be confident despite those losses. He got a long, decent break after Bassa 2 before getting in with Duke as well.

It was seemingly last chance saloon time at world title-level for Dave but in a strange way he was perfectly ready/primed - he'd taken Bassa to the limit - and all the pressure and expectation was on Duke.

Just as an aside, I'd always (wrongly) assumed that McKenzie was the taller, rangier guy and that Dave was a shorter guy. But they are both listed at the same height...and Dave tended to fight like the shorter pressure fighter.

I liked Dave a great deal and was pleased he got a world title.

118-110 McAuley on my card too,McKenzie tried all night to bully him and kept coming forward but always came up second best apart from when Dave had a wee lull after hurting Duke in the 7th

Wasnt a classic TBH

I remember at the time thinking McKensie looked like a fighter who had nothing left after making the weight; no discredit to MCAuley who made several defenses but McKensie went on to prove he was better than this.

I don't think the internet has ever made me angrier, than seeing my surname misspelt twice in a post, which has that same surname in the title bar.
I also suspect Dave would be equally irked at seeing you capitalise the small c in his name.
Sort it out Niel!

Bloody hell davie it was a typing error. No disrespect to the great man: I meant to mention in the original post that McAuley equalled Jim Watt's record for world title defenses by a British fighter at the time after beating Duke. Not bad going.

Don't worry yourself at my faux outrage Neil. I was just fornicating with you.

But really? McKensie?

McKenzie vs McAuley

1. 9 - 10 - McAuley. His bobbing left hand is irritating to watch
2. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Slipping shots and landing double left hook, nice looking move that he pulls off a couple times
3. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Bit better from Duke. Good variety from McAuley, some thudding body shots
4. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Some decent work from Dave. Duke getting dirty at times.
5. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Took a while for Dave to get started. McKenzie looks a long way from world class here, really making it a scrappy fight
6. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Struggling to give McKenzie anything at this point.
7. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Bit of a drubbing. Just short of a 10-8 for me
8. 10 - 10 - Fairly poor round. McAuley looks spent now
9. 10 - 9 - McKenzie. As bad a round as I've watched in Horses challenge
10. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Slight improvement from McAuley, looks to have recovered from the effort in round 7
11. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Struggling to believe McKenzie is a 23-0 world champion,
12. 9 - 10 - McAuley. Good effort in the last from McAuley

119-110 McAuley

If you had told me McKenzie was a journey man in this bout I'd have believed you. The only thing I gave in Dukes favour was a direct result of McAuley punching himself out in round 7.
