Fury interview in Rolling Stone

Post by dookus »

http://www.rollingstone.com/sports/tyso ... se-w443250
I was a lot happier when I wasn’t the world champion because people wasn't giving me as much shit. People wasn't wanting me to do all these bad things so much. Listen I've been pushed to the brink. I can't take no more. I'm in a hospital at the moment. I'm seeing psychiatrists. Everything. They say I've got a version of bipolar. I'm a manic depressive. All from what they've done to me. All this shit through boxing, through taking titles, through writing me off. I beat the best man but I'm still shit.

I don't think he's making this up. He mentions elsewhere his wife has left him. There is definitely the ring of his unhinged truth to this.

The whole thing raises a lot of difficult questions. In 2016, with absolutely everybody getting their oar in about everything the famous say and do, what hope for a mentally ill celebrity who can't get himself off social media?

I'm very sceptical about the sudden onset of mental illness in Tyson.

He's failed two drug tests, can't seem to motivate himself to get in shape and has come to realize that he's not popular enough to fill a modestly sized arena even for a lineal heavyweight title fight. Feigning mental illness goes a long way towards extricating himself from the mess he finds himself in.

How does that going to extract him from anything. If he failed drag test then they are not going to forget about it because of his mental issues. They will slap him with a ban regardless.

He was always bit bonkers. Its entirely possible he went over the edge. I cant imagine him telling such personal things about his family in particular if it was not true.

The way I see it is he's not the most disciplined of athletes to put it mildly and having reached the top of the mountain he couldn't find the motivation to commit himself to another spartan training camp so he did what many young men would do given plenty of money and plenty of time - went out and got wasted most days. Now he's shamelessly playing the gypsy card for all it's worth and throwing in the one size fits all wasters card of "mental illness" to explain his inactivity. To me it's so transparent it's comical.

And so while Tyson's out there doing exactly as he pleases the ban when it comes will probably be backdated to just after the Klitschko fight and in 6 months or a year when his party money runs out he'll have the motivation to fight again cos how the fvck else is he gonna earn big bucks and suddenly he'll be miraculously cured of his mental illness.

I like the guy. He's playing the system and if people are gullible enough to believe him then good luck to him.

Tyson fury's rolling stone magazine interview....worrying

Post by Stevieb8006 »

WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Tyson Fury says he hasn’t been in the gym for months, has “done lots of cocaine” in the last few months, and doesn’t want to live anymore. In a long, sad and disturbing interview with Rolling Stone, Fury stated “I’ve done lots of cocaine. Lots of it. Why shouldn’t I take cocaine? It’s my life isn’t it? I can do what I want. Yeah, I have done cocaine. Plenty of people have done cocaine as well. What the f–k has that got to do with anything? That ain’t a performance enhancing drug. Am I not allowed to have a life now as well? Do they want to take my personal life off me too? I’ve not been in a gym for months. I’ve not been training. I’ve been going through depression. I just don’t want to live anymore, if you know what I’m saying. I’ve had total enough of it. They’ve forced me to the breaking edge. Never mind cocaine. I just didn’t care. I don’t want to live anymore.

Arguably the most well known Heavyweight on the planet right now. This could be greatest PR stunt ever. He could fight a journeyman now and still make 10 million. People will tune in to see the freakshow fight....but something tells me he genuinely is going downhill fast. Either way he will make a lot of money.

He could've made money keeping that championship.

Couldn't even make one defense.

The man is damaged.

He WILL be depressed - at the paydays that have been thrown away.

Shown too much public weakness, needs to keep quiet and be classy.

He wouldn't have got bad press had he not compared gays to peados in the build up to the wlad fight.

Quite simple. His bad press isn't because of his gyspy background no one is giving billy Joe shit(apart from fighting tin cans, it is purely because of his outrageous statements.

He can't throw the "it's because I'm a traveller" spiel about and continue to say he stands by his previous comments and expect sympathy.

Sickening to read these couch quarterbacks judge and pretend to know the tiniest shred of what's going on with him. You guys should really listen to the self righteous bullshit ya preach lol. I'm skeptical you can handle a fraction of what Fury has, and the guy has been mentally off his whole life. The lack of empathy is a reflection on you, not him. Your free to like or dislike whoever, but it's probably these empty headed judgements and hate that drive afflicted people over the edge. Words like classy shouldn't be in this thread, when none is shown. Is this the first HW champion to say outrageous things? Um no. And some of you have been demanding Fury be stripped and banned the moment he won. He's obviously no Angel, but wtf. Well your getting what you want, and if he hurts himself or completely cracks up you get to enjoy that too. All I say is good luck to him and hope he saves himself from destruction. But I'm in the minority I guess.

I don't think that is fair to be honest mate.

Most people on here are still kind of sitting on the fence in case his mental illness is what he is now saying it is - surely you can see where the scepticism has come from?

One minute we get the "I am mad me" type stuff from Tyson when he dresses up as batman, but then he fails a PED drugs test and suddenly announces he is depressed, then he fails another test for beak and he claims to have full blown mental health issues.

I am guessing that if he can show he actually has mental health issues then this be classed almost like an injury and he will get out of the fight contract without being sued, whereas if it was a case of getting banned for taking various drugs then Klitschko could sue him for all kinds of stuff.

Fury needs some assistance, I think it's clear he's not in his right mind; a bit of time away from boxing, get himself seen by specialists.

I suspect that if he is treated, and needs medication he won't return - can someone fight on those kinds of medications, would it be safe, or fair to the fighter, as surely they'd be physically and mentally impeded?

I've been a critic in the past, but wading in to someone who clearly seems to be suffering from some form of mental illness, is below the belt.

I'd be very surprised if Fury didn't attempt some sort of comeback, but also very surprised if the comeback went well.

Needs to take a bit of a break from the public eye, pretty unlikely though

I'm not sure the pressure of being at the top is something he's equipped to cope with, bipolar disorder is very individuated, and can be exacerbated by stressful situations, obviously, I'm no shrink, but it does seem that winning the title has caused a fairly spectacular meltdown, and Tyson has plunged himself into alcohol and drug abuse, perhaps subconsciously as a way out of it all - he certainly doesn't seem to find the situation a happy one.

I wish the man the best, he's got some demons to exorcise, and it's probably going to be a long road back, if indeed the road leads back.

Sitting on the fence, in case their opinion is proven wrong? This guy has claimed mental disturbance, and shown it, from the very beginning this is not something new. Dunno how this got twisted to make it sound out of the blue. It just didn't matter before, dismissed because he wasn't "important" then like he is now. I think skepticism runs rampant when it comes to people we dislike or are offended by, doubts get magnified then. He genuinely has mental problems. That doesn't excuse any infractions he committed punishment is inevitable, but it shouldn't suprise anyone a sick business like boxing pushed an afflicted person over the edge. He needs to save his life, boxing and it's opinions deservedly take a backseat to that. I've seen enough life lost to know that.

Not sure if you read my full post? - people (including myself) are sitting on the fence because we are not medically qualified and have not clinically assessed Tyson.

As you have said "He genuinely has mental problems" I can only assume that you have ? (although I don't know what "mental problems" means exactly in a medical sense and guess it can have a whole myriad of meanings).

Dunno about "sudden". There are interviews going back to 2012 where he discusses his mental problems.

I believe we all have mental problems, some more serious than others. Depends on how an individual defines "problems". Fury has been an obvious and serious case since he has appeared on the scene, while medical confirmation is necessary (despite his head problems being widely known and exposed already) it won't stop or even affect the hate he gets. Those opinions are the ones I refer to, the opinions that are common all over maybe not as many here as other places/sites/media but all over none the same.

But I don't need a doctor to tell me crazy when I see it, working with crazy and seeing up close what brain affected people do how they function it's not what the uninformed lay person potentially thinks it is. Typically the problems and people are swept under the rug until a breakdown happens. They're just considered a liability not a person. How can "normal" people expect to fairly judge that?

The Mayo clinic allowed Muhammad Ali to fight Larry Holmes, and declared him fit after countless tests. Tests that indicated he was not fit to fight. So a doctor's diagnosis isn't always the final word on a situation either. I'm sorry if I'm coming off angry, this isn't a light matter. Your right to reserve judgement, we need all the information before formulating an opinion.
