Watt v Nash is a domestic world title classic.

Buchanan v Watt was a punch marathon but I felt Buchanan was very predictable in this fight, well below par, perhaps even fortunate to win - and that people romanticise this win over a future world champ in Watt to cement Buchanan's legend, which otherwise rests on two admittedly excellent wins over Laguna.

Buchanan vs Watt (4th time I've watched it, I think)

1. 10 - 9 Buchanan, came out of the blocks fast, really good opener. Landing heavy shots with some good in fighting. Watt with some decent work too
2. 10 - 9 Buchanan. Closer round with Watt trying to back him up but Buchanan still dictating the terms of the fight and landing the better shots
3. 9 - 10 Watt made really good use of his southpaw jab, timimng it better and using it as a half hook over Jim's jab to throw him off his rythm.
4. 10 - 9 Buchanan. Back on top and finishing with a stunning combo in the final seconds.
5. 10 - 9 Buchanan another close one but the better work again from Buchanan for me.
6. 9 - 10 Watt measuring the distance nicely with his jab, definitely his best weapon
7. 10 - 9 Buchanan some more examples of good clean in fighting, Buchanan getting the better of it for me
8. 10 - 9 Buchanan decent round, noticing the constant battle for the centre of the ring, both men taking turns to trying pushing on the front foot
9. 9 - 10 Watt again that jab over Buchanans left. He lands it better when he gets the advantage in lead foot postiion and stops Buchanan pushing him back
10. 9 - 10 Watt. a ragged round I'd have expected Buchanan to come out on top of, but he missed a lot and Watt landed a few nice right hand counters
11. 10 - 9 Buchanan. Outstanding fitness from these 2, they've fought a good pace and in a modern 12 rounder, they'd be cruising to the finish
12. 9 - 10 Watt. Buchanan came on strong towards the bell, but i'd preffered Watts work throughout
13. 10 - 10 This round went back and forth. I'd need to watch it again to try and split them. Good heavy shots from Buchanan late might nick it
14. 10 - 9 Buchanan. Starting and finishing strong with spurts and flurries throughout. Watts effort more consistent, pumping out the jab constantly
15. 10 - 9 Buchanan again preffering Kens work but good effort right to the end by Watt

145 - 141 Buchanan
I've always enjoyed that fight, as a Scotsman, there is probably no more significant fight in Scottish boxing history. A good battle and I think that is as wide as I've ever scored it, I'm sure I've had it as tight as 1 round in Buchanans favour in the past.

All it lacked really was a knockdown or 2, but credit to the stamina and effort from both of them, 15 rounds was a long time to keep not only consitently throwing but moving as well

I often get caught up in what goes on upstairs in a fight but I really enjoyed watching the movement of the two, the battle for the centre of the ring, both men pushed the other back at times with neither man willing to be pushed back to the ropes and always trying to maintain the middle of the ring.
Buchanan did the better job at claiming positional advantage in the orthodox vs southpaw battle however, getting the clockwise rotation going to get on the outside of Watts lead foot. For a man that often talks about this in commentary Watt seemed content to concede that at times in the ring. I think this played a big part in the win, as certainly in the first part of the fight, the rounds Watt won were where he was able to establish that jab and he got that off best when he had the better position to throw it over Buchanans left from the outside position.

The last point I'd make is the in-fighting was a joy at times, the ref seldom had to split them. They came together a few times in every round, the clinches were kept clean and the punches kept flowing when they got in close

Disappointing end to Buchanan/Ortiz with Carlos retiring after 6 with an injured arm,it was a close fight with nothing in it,I had Buchanan ahead but the rounds were close with neither man able to land much clean and gain a real foothold,Buchanan's jab edging it for me just about,Ortiz was wiley though and showed glimpses on the inside

Watt/Nash was a fun fight while it lasted,Nash couldn't have hoped for a better start by putting Watt down in the opener but Watt to his credit regrouped and landed some heavy shots of his own putting Nash down 3 times before the ref stopped it,good fight

145-141 Buchanan, really closely contested fight,a lot of tough rounds to score, every time Buchanan led off Watt countered and vice versa, a lot of give and take from both men,Buchanan started off sharp then Watt began to come into as Ken tired a little but Buchanan used all his experience to close the show

The Ortiz vs Buchanan fight was a bit of a damp squib.
I've been looking to watch a bit of Ortiz. That was surely a mere shadow of the great lightweight that shared the ring with the likes of Laguna and Ramos.
Buchanan looked like he had another gear to be fair. He won the majority of the rounds but looked like he could have done more every round. Perhaps too much respect for a faded great

Couple of observations
Ortiz looked like some hobo or vagrant they'd dragged in off the street with that hair cut
Ken Buchanan looks like he could be fellow Edinburgh fighter Alex Arthurs dad

Ortiz was a beautiful boxer in his day. So sharp and correct. Best Puerto Rican I've ever watched.

I found it difficult to score most rounds. I often wasn't sure what was landing and what was missing.

I may well score it significantly differently a second time, but my score is pretty similar to davie's and handsofstone's, so maybe I got it right the first time.
