If David Haye was to continue, should he sign with Matchroom?

Post by SAPFO »

Does he swallow his pride and sign with Matchroom, make a few free fight night builds ups on regular Sky and go for 1 last payday which he was obviously banking on?

I think the only person that can rebuild him are the people he hates the most. He will not be able to do this on his own now.

If Haye is to continue, he has to sign to Matchroom as they have all the cards at Heavyweight now.

Attempting to continue is such a bad idea that who it's with almost doesn't matter.

Eddie is a business man, he will work with Haye as the numbers make sense. Haye obviously needs the money to sustain his lifestyle, so will continue if he can. I bet he's going to have some dark days in the near future. His life really has gone to shite on all fronts from the outside looking in.

He needs to get fit and speak to Eddie. Just be a simple fighter. Eddie has AJ, Whyte, Chisora, Price, Ortiz and now Bellew. He can pull Wilder & Brown easily. They can rebuild him, and make money for both sides. The Sky machine can hype him. He is still a big draw regardless. He could fight sleep and sell it as a PPV.

Assuming Haye is back in a few months. I think Chisora vs Haye #2 would be a good tester to see where he's at. Delboy has nothing on anyway. Maybe Briggs shortly before Chisora. He also needs to stay active to keep the momentum going, and lose some of that feckin muscle.

My opinion

I think his body will keep breaking. It's another very bad injury, after no real fights since recoving from his last one from years ago.

He'll get paid though.

with his style of fighting he needs to be injury free, but if he can make it back i'd target dylian Whyte then make who ever holds the WBA regular and then a last big money fight. However i have a feeling the whole chisora involvement in the run up to this was to pre empt the build up to a potential rematch.

Depends how well he can recover and how much he needs the money.

Each time with another long break to rebuild after which, if he isn't forced to keep pulling out, the same thing will happen and his value will keep declining, he'll totally ruin his body, and take enough punches to give himself brain damage. If he needs money he needs to find another way to get it.

That's why he needs Matchroom. He needs to stay fit, and busy. He could have 3 for fights in 12 months without having he hassle of doing organising it all. Just stay fit, and fight.

Anyone that thinks Haye can't con people into buying into the hype at least one more time (perhaps many more) haven't been paying attention

And he doesn't need Fwank or Hearn to do so either

Haye is a snake oil salesman and he will be able to sell enough people on his ability to rebuild that he will get paid. I don't know how much he earned for the Dave shows but they were popular and would likely pull in plenty of viewers were he to try that path again. However, i have serious doubts about him being able to get back, achilles injuries are no joke and once they are badly damaged are seldom the same again with a high risk of the injury reoccurring.

To answer the question, I don't think he needs Matchroom and I don't believe that his ego would allow him to sign with them...

Depends what route he wants to take.

Hearn could whack him on a few undercards, beat a few journeymen, get him one more big fight on PPV for mega money.

But I still believe Haye could sell fights out at the 02, fighting bin men etc. The Dave fights still did good business. So, if he wants to have low risk fights for money for the next couple of years, he still has the charsima and salesmanship to pull it off.

All that is assuming the rematch with Bellew doesn't come off, of course...

His times up. His comeback was always against the clock anyway. Looks like his bodies ravished. Still question marks over the shoulder. Now the achilles. He cant get through a training camp anymore by the looks of things. Plus how far back does this achilles injury go. Since his comeback...theres always been something not quite right about him. Couldnt quite put my finger on it. But its his legs. I dont think they can sustain him to fight at that level anymore. Ashame because looks like he could do the rounds and still punch etc.

Needs to forget about planning a fight. Put himself into a training camp once the achilles is heeled. Try to get down to 210 pounds or even lighter. Work on his reflexes. Speed. See if hes still got it...or time to call it a day. Dont go planning anymore fights. The injury looks like bad timing for him but tbh its the bodies way of telling you its had enough at that stage. He should have probably signed with matchroom from the comeback.

Needs to forget about fighting now...even if he comes back and beats bellew where do you go from there. Nowhere.

Needs to now concentrate on his life. Its sad to see a guy thats put his body on the line been in hard fights slogged his way through training camp after training camp made millions is now skint. Begging for a rematch with bellew whilst sitting with a fu cked shoulder and injured achilles at 36. Where exactly has his money went and who,s advicing him. They need to put something in place now with the money from the comeback that will sustain him for life.

He conned us all with his beach-bod physique, but it covers up a ton of bodily damage from his explosive style and the explosive training that will have to go into having such a style. At 36 his body has clearly broken down, that shoulder was meant to be career-ending anyway so i do think he's conned us with that one. The achilles injury is just another example of tendons/ligaments unable to take the strain anymore of top level fighting and training camps. I won't be buying into anymore nonsense from Haye now, he's done.

You remain impartial while playing the role of devils advocate. Gun to your head I'm sure you'd have sided with the opinion of the vast majority on here. Much more fun stirring the pot though

I've been saying that Haye's massively overrated for years.

How many times do I have to be right, before I get some respect around here?

So you thought Bellew would win?

There's a difference making a specific prediction and just vaguely saying someone is overrated then trying to claim credit years later when he loses largely down to being injured.

Would Matchroom even sign him? Eddie Hearn doesn't like him & there's been a bit of verbals going back and forth between them for the last couple of years.

In saying that I do think that Haye is desparate for the rematch & if he loses that then his career is over.
