Basilio mullers Trinidad on the inside, with his face getting turned into something resembling a World War One battlefield in the process. he stops Tito if its 15 rounds, takes it something like 8-4 otherwise
'mullers' is slang word for batters in case any non-Brits are wondering.

Thought this would definitely attract more attention. You wouldn't have trouble selling tickets to it...
Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
This would be a gr8 fight!!
I think on Carmens best night vs Felix best then Carmen would edge out a close points win in an out n out WAR. 12/15 round welter/middle makes some difference. On a 15 he wins a bit wider even a possible stoppage. I see Felix winning the early round and Carmen coming good late in the fight wen Felix slows down due to all the body punches he would take. Basilio was relentness as tuff as nails and had the heart of a lion. Felix had a good reach, better power and skills. You would have to give Trinidad a chance.

Trindiad would actually have a very good chance, especially at welterweight.
First of all, Basilio lost to people most of us have never heard of. Secondly, when Trindiad struggled, it was against slick boxers who had good defenses. Basilio certainly does not fit that bill.
At middleweight, Basiilos chances improve greatly. He adjusted much better to that weight class than Trinidad.

I would just about pay anything to see which broke first --- Basilio's chin, or Trinidad's will. Those were two qualities which took an awful lot of lickin' in order to stop tickin'!Ambling Alp wrote:Trindiad would actually have a very good chance, especially at welterweight.

Swarmer vs Slugger usually doesn't work out for the swarmer but Basilio had an awesome chin................noone is invincible though. I could see Trinidad by TKO.
Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
I see Trinidad winning this fight by TKO. Basilio will have his moments but I don't think he has the necessary footwork to defeat Tito at welter. I think Trinidad accurate and powerful left hook will be too much for Basilio. I give Billy Graham a better chance to defeat Trinidad than I do to Basilio.

Do you think Basilio had, "the necessary footwork" to beat Robinson? That wasn't where he won his fights. Incidentally, Robinson's left hook at 160 wasn't, "too much" for Basilio. Food for thought.Idisagree wrote:I see Trinidad winning this fight by TKO. Basilio will have his moments but I don't think he has the necessary footwork to defeat Tito at welter. Basilio is too good on the inside
if he can get inside on a 90YO Ray Robinson he can for damn sure do it to Trinidad. he easily outfights Tito on the inside
plus Trinidad wanted you on the end of his punches rather than short distance.

That is why I said at welter. To be honest I don't think Robinson at that stage in his career was the same lethal puncher he was a few years before. At middle weight I give Basilio a better chance at defeating Trinidad. People who came at Trinidad were more than often stopped, and Basilio do fit that bill perfectly. People who used footwork to move around and give Trinidad angles were better suited for defeating Trinidad. I honestly don't see Basilio defeating Trinidad. I'll make Trinidad the favorite but not for that much.Goodnight, Irene wrote:Do you think Basilio had, "the necessary footwork" to beat Robinson? That wasn't where he won his fights. Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
How do you explain the Fullmer one-shot KO, just one fight before Robinson tackled Basilio?
Stylistically, the fight favours Trinidad. But if Robinson had thirty rounds with Basilio at Middle, & couldn't put him down, much less out (& Basilio absorbed a tremendous beating), I have serious doubts Trinidad can finish.

One of those unexplainable things. How do you explain Fullmer stopping Basilio twice? Was Fullmer a better puncher than Robinson? I don’t see Trinidad KOing Basilio, I see Trinidad stopping him most likely on cuts, a TKO.

Carmen had too much heart to lose with a guy like Tito. Carmen eats him up in 10.

Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
Trinidad would probably have tasted canvas like usual but would have fought his way to a decision victory by pounding Basilios ass.
Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
If Carmen is allowed to take punishment he wins. If a ref gets overly squeamish, because Carmen gets a hangnail (new school) Trinidad probably would be given a gift.
Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
Basilio was aggressive, had a great chin, huge heart and pretty damn good body attack. Trinidad definitely is the superior puncher of the two and maybe a little faster. I'm pretty sure Basilio would have the stamina edge, however he would also cut easier. I don't think Trinidad could knock out Basilio for the count, I could see him dropping him or getting a TKO win over a cut or something. But the more likely result in my head is Basilio simply outworking and continuing his tireless attack and edging out a hard fought Unanimous or Majority decision.
Re: Carmen Basilio & Felix Trinidad at Welter...
Yep, he wouldn't take any rounds off like DLH, and it wouldn't be pretty or finessed, but if the ref let it go to the final bell, I don't see Trinidad's hand getting raised.
