How Mike Bourne is considered in England ?

Post by thefrenchjourneyman »

And Queensbury league boxers in general ? Who are the best and want they turn professional ? I'm not sure I understand the conduct of this competition ...

I thought it was an Australian thing, but seeing an interview and Francis Warren talked about it I couldn't believe it, but it still doesn't interest me at all.

Wouldnt Bourne be a Cruiserweight in reality if he turned pro or would he struggle to do the weight ?

Not the Biggest of Heavyweights really is he .

He blew one of my heavyweights away in around 30 seconds on a queensbury show .

To answer the question on how Queensbury are perceived id say the only thing they have is the tv deal , they pay poorly and the tv is the only thing to attract any boxer to them , so theyre not very big even in the unlicensed/white collar circuit , let alone on the grand scheme of things .

Are you sure he wasn't talking about Queensbury Promotions rather than QBL?

To be honest I am very confused by the whole thing.

Queensbury Boxing League is a well run, well honed, efficient organisation.

I would tip Mike Bourne to give Anthony Joshua all the trouble in the world.

Can I have a bit I what you're smoking please? :TU:
If we sat down and had a chat, you will realise we have actually met, and it was fortuitous for you.

You will also realise Mike has considerable power, and I truly believe better boxing ability than Joshua.

I may well be wrong, but that is my opinion.

As a former heavyweight, you should know the essence of power.

Get real , If he was of that level he wouldnt be on Queensbury league shows , he would already be pro (unless of course hes either not medically able to or he cant do tickets , of which i get the impression the latter isnt the case ) .

He can hit hard , against guys who arent on that level , who is Mikes best win against ?

You're putting yourself down there without cause Billy; they don't give ABA titles away, they are earned, if you couldn't punch your weight you'd have gotten nowhere.

If you would have seen me box you'd know I haven't got a clue about power. Boxing is all about levels and at the level Mike is at he's a beast similar to how Price was at British level but he soon got found out when he stepped up just as I see happening with Mike just like yourself I maybe wrong. But I'd bet a pound to a penny we will never get to find out. Who are you by the way? Where did we meet?
My exact words were that I think he would give him all the trouble in the world. For all I know, the bell could ring and he gets chinned with the first punch. However, I think Joshua was very lucky to become Olympic Champion. Even a former ex pro and Finchley ABC boxer mate of mine said that. He was getting that Gold medal come what may.

If there was a PM box on this site, I would let you know who i am and you would understand why I wish to remain with my nom de plume.

I know a couple who fight in the league, willing lads but limited. Standard unlicensed stuff.

Amazed its on Eurosport. Seems a little strange to say the least!

Is that you, Ross?
It is definitely not Ross, but I have respect for Ross as a matchmaker. The QBL is at an embryonic stage, and I would question some of the remarks about the quality of the majority of the contests.

Although it doesn't have the pro tag in front of it, I would genuinely say the quality is above average, and is better quality than a pro prospect running after a journeyman all night long, which is the back stop of a pro undercard. Your 50/50 fight is normally your main event.

I can say that with complete conviction.

As I said above, from what I've seen the fights are generally very well matched and entertaining. It's good sport in the truest sense of the word. I stand by my comment that the overall quality (read: ability) of the fighters is low.
Fair enough. I see your point. The ability would need to be tested against those of a higher degree. Hopefully the level of ability will increase over time.
