1888-10-01 (118lbs) Bill Baxter w rtd 7 (finish) Pudney Sullivan, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Billed for the English 118lbs title, Sullivan (118¼), who was already suffering from a bad cold, had his left eye cut in the opening session in what was termed to be a hot one. After Baxter (117¼) continued to target the damaged eye at the end of the third it was almost closed. Although Sullivan held his own in the fourth and went reasonably well in the fifth, the sixth saw him floored twice. It was almost over, and when Baxter set about Sullivan in some style the latter retired himself on the 2.50 mark.
