1889-06-06 (148lbs)Ted Pritchard w co 2 (finish) Alec Burns, Paradise Street School of Arms, Lambeth, London, England. Referee: Bernard J.Angle. Billed for the English 148lbs middleweight title, the fight started at a fair pace and immediately prior to the end of the opening round Burns (147) was dropped in his own corner. It was obvious that Burns had not shaken off the effects of his knockdown, being quickly in trouble in the second as Pritchard (146) set about him with both hands. After being smashed down again, when Burns got up he was beaten down for the third time and counted out on the 1.30 mark. Burns’ corner unsuccessfully tried to claim a foul on the grounds that each time their man went down he was being punched when on his haunches.
