1890-03-13 (102lbs) Alf Gunning w co 4 (finish) Bill Bolton, Ormonde Club, Walworth, London, England. Although there was no billing as such, with both men scaling 101lbs it was referred to as a 102lbs title match at the weight in later years. Bolton started well enough, but after being in receipt of some hefty blows in the second round it was no surprise that Gunning took over in the third. Badly advised by his corner, Bolton charged into Gunning at the beginning of the fourth, and after being steadied by a terrific uppercut, followed by three punches to the solar plexus, he was sent crashing down to be counted out.

Regardless of his victory, Gunning quickly outgrew the weight class.
