1890-11-14 (126lbs) Young Griffo w co 13 (finish) Paddy Moran, York Street AC, Sydney, Australia. Billed for the Australian version of the world 126lbs title, at the end of the opening round the Brisbane Courier reported that despite giving away height, reach, weight and experience, Griffo (123) was already well on the way to outclassing Moran (125¼). As round proceeded round it was clear that Moran was just looking to survive, it being only his long reach that enabled him to last into the 13th. Coming into that round it was clearly apparent that Griffo was rapidly losing his patience with what had now become almost a sparring session, and after smashing home a right to the jaw that sent Moran to the boards the latter was counted out.

Meanwhile, in England, on 5 December, Fred Johnson knocked out Stanton Abbott inside five rounds at the Kennington Social Club, London to win a 126lbs championship competition.
