1890-11-25 (148lbs) Ted Bryant w co 1 (15) John O’Brien, St Andrew’s Hall, Westminster, London, England. Although made at catchweights, Bryant (148) claimed the English 148lbs title following his shock win over a man reckoned to be at least 14 pounds heavier. The contest had begun with the taller O’Brien chasing his man round the ring with lefts and rights, but after dashing in to attack Bryant downstairs the latter was counted out after just 37 seconds following a cracking right to the jaw.

On 22 June 1891, Alf Suffolk knocked out William Robinson in the first round at the NSC, Covent Garden, London to win a 148lbs championship competition.
