1891-11-23 (132lbs) Harry Overton w co 4 (20) Bill Reader, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: Bernard J. Angle. Billed for the English 132lbs title, the contest started briskly with both Overton (129½) and Reader (130) showing clever moves and crisp hitting. It was clear in the fourth round that the two men meant business, and as Overton began to weaken, being driven around the ring and under pressure, Reader closed in for the finish only to be smashed down for the full count following a left-right counter to body and chin. Most of those in attendance had thought that Overton was finished, as did Reader, and it brought to an end what had been a most exciting contest.
