1891-11-30 (104lbs) George Beach w co 4 (20) Jim Knowles, Albany Club, Islington, London, England. Referee: R. Windett. Billed for the English 104lbs title, the first three rounds saw both men doing good work and it was fairly even when the fourth got underway. At the start of the session it was Knowles (104) who was making the running, punching well with both hands, while Beach (102) was happy to box on the counter. At that stage it seemed as though Beach was merely biding his time, and eventually after Knowles had over reached himself a right-hand counter sent him crashing down to be counted out on the 2.19 mark.

On being seen as the top man at the weight, Beach was challenged by Frank Gauntlett (January 1892), Mike Small (August 1892) and Darkey Edwards (October 1892), the winner of a championship competition at the weight.
