1893-04-11 (124lbs) Morgan Crowther w co 20 (20) Fred Johnson, Goodwin Club, Shoreditch, London, England. Referee: Robert Watson. Not billed as an English 124lbs title fight but reported as one after the event, although the men started carefully by the third Crowther was working in earnest, lashing out with both hands. Continuing to go for the quick win, in the seventh Crowther walked on to a heavy right to the jaw before sinking to his knees. After the tenth, with both showing signs of wear and tear, the next few sessions saw Johnson taking a lead. At the end of the 16th it looked to be curtains for Crowther when he dropped to the floor following a heavy rally, but just when Johnson was in a position to put the quietus on him time was called. Coming out for the 17th, with both eyes almost closed, Crowther was given another battering before coming back with a terrific right to Johnson’s jaw in the 18th. Following a quiet 19th it was all Crowther in the 20th, and after knocking Johnson down three times the latter was counted out on the final occasion.

Strangely, Crowther did not appear to do much after this.
