1894-06-29 (130lbs) Young Griffo drew 20 George Dixon, The Casino, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: John Eckhardt. As both men were inside 130lbs Griffo’s 130lbs world title claim would have been at stake in this one, and although Dixon (123) dropped him in the opening round with lefts and rights to both head and body he remained upright for the rest of the contest. Not only that but at times he gave Dixon a boxing lesson, the latter’s left eye being cut in the 18th. There was a furious exchange of blows in the 20th as both men looked to find the winning punch, but it was to no avail.

From there on in Griffo boxed at an increased poundage.
