1895-03-18 (96/98lbs) Jack Maloney w pts 20 Ernie Brady, Barrack Road Gym, Newcastle,, England. Billed for the English 94lbs to 95lbs title, the fight report stated it to have been made at 96lbs, give or take a pound. While Brady carried the power and made a better start than Westminster’s Maloney, the latter came back strongly during the second half of the contest to outbox his opponent. It was a victory for science over power, the footnote of the Mirror of Life report stating that it was a pity that the heavier men could not box in such fashion.

This was followed by Sid Scales, who outpointed Jabez White over three rounds to win a 98lbs championship competition at the Central Hall, Holborn, London on 6 April.
