1896-05-04 (106lbs) Bill Mortimer w rsc 4 (20) Bill Bolton, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Billed for the English 106lbs title, the bout went ahead at catchweights after Bolton (107) failed to make the required weight and Mortimer (105) had waived the forfeit money. While Bolton got away well in the opening session, at the start of the second Mortimer went after his rival with a vengeance, dropping him three times in all. Working from head to body, Mortimer again had Bolton down in the third with a right to the ribs, and in the fourth after the latter had been dropped twice he was eventually counted out.

With this being Mortimer’s last bout at 106lbs, Fred Smith (January 1897) and Bill Fielder (September 1897) challenged all England, prior to Jim Lee and Ernie Brady claiming the title in January 1898.
