1898-03-12 (112lbs) George Corfield w pts 12 Jack Walker, Norfolk Road Drill Hall, Sheffield, England. The final of this English 112lbs championship belt competition saw Corfield outbox Walker throughout, apart from one round when the latter’s work-rate took the honours. There were no knockdowns, but Walker was constantly trying to put one over on Corfield without success.

The decision was a formality, and despite probably weighing in the region of 115lbs at the time of the contest Corfield was recognised as the English champion throughout the country following his victory. Regardless, Jim Williams, who failed to make the weight for the final, continued to claim that he was the true champion. However, by September of the same year both men were contesting the English 115lbs title.
