1899-10-28 Frank Childs w co 3 (6) Klondike, Athletic Association Gym, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Referee: Joe Choynski. Childs, who was superior in every way to his rival, took over Klondike's ‘black’ title claim when a left uppercut dropped the latter like a log to be counted out at 60 seconds of the third round. Prior to that Childs had controlled the fight, avoided Klondike’s rushes and scored with heavy blows to the body.
With both fighters’ title claims at stake, Childs drew over six rounds with George Byers at the Star AC, Chicago on 16 March 1900. In what was a strange one, Childs next defended his claim with a fourth-round kayo win over Joe Butler at the Athletic Association Gym, Chicago on 15 December 1900. Having gone down in the second round and been counted out sitting on the floor looking for a foul, despite Butler being talked into carrying on he was knocked out again a couple of rounds later.
