1900-03-15 (124lbs) Jack Gibson w co 4 (20) Bob Russell, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Although billed for the English 124lbs title it was not generally recognised as a championship contest due to it being contested over two-minute rounds. There was little between the pair in the opening three rounds, with too much holding to make it interesting, but in the fourth Gibson sprang into action. With Gibson sensing victory, after forcing Russell into a corner he knocked him out with a right to the jaw.
