1900-03-30 (124lbs) Tim Callahan w disq 3 (6) Dave Sullivan, Industrial Hall, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. Made at 124lbs, despite being a mere six-rounder Callahan took over Sullivan’s claim at the weight on winning. Sullivan, who was disqualified for repeatedly hitting and holding, was always looking for a way out of the fight having already forfeited to Callahan after being unable to make the weight. Callahan had the better of it, and although he did not see the 124lbs version of the featherweight title as being that important both he and his manager saw it as a way of lying in wait for Terry McGovern and the more prestigious 122lbs belt.
On 1 September, Callahan outpointed Ole Olsen over 20 rounds at the Crescent AC, Toronto, Canada in what was a match made at 124lbs. Although Olsen made the weight, Callahan, who was four and a half pounds over and forced to pay forfeit, continued with his 124lbs claim, regardless.
