1901-03-04 (132lbs) Bill Chester w co 1 (15) Bill Wood, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Billed for the English 132lbs title, Chester (131) soon got down to work, and following a rally that left Wood (131) on the floor a cry for a ‘foul’ went up but was ignored. Back on his feet and trying to find his distance, Wood was caught by two heavy rights to the jaw, the last of which sent him crashing to the boards where he was counted out inside two minutes.
Early in 1902 Jack Goldswain and Jabez White were challenging all England, being joined by Peter Brown, who won a championship competition when outpointing Tom Ireland over three rounds at the New Adelphi, The Strand, London on 24 April 1902.
