1903-03-21 (130lbs) Nat Smith w co 20 (20) Jack Dixon, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Sam Francis. Made at 130lbs, a fine contest was spoiled by far too many clinches, although Smith (127) scored the better punches and was well on his way to a points win when Dixon (127) was knocked out with just 30 seconds of the contest remaining. The fight had started with Dixon rushing in, playing for the body, and Smith was down twice in the second round more from pushes than punches. By the ninth, Smith, who was scoring freely with the left hand, floored Dixon several times. Dixon was now bleeding profusely, but he gamely pressed on before being put down from a right to the head in the 17th. In the next session he had Smith over, but the latter was quickly back in control to put Dixon down twice for long counts in the final round before both of them fell over together, the latter being counted out after banging his head on the floor.
