1903-11-09 (114lbs) Digger Stanley w pts 15 Owen Moran, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Made at 114lbs, there was never much between the pair in what was a great display of fighting, with first one man going to the fore only for the other take up the cudgels. The seventh was just one of several rounds in which both Moran and Stanley hammered away at each other, and although the latter was down in the 12th he was up immediately to exchange blows. Extremely close coming in to the final session, after Stanley produced the better work it almost certainly influenced the judges in his favour. Despite a lack of championship billing, gossip credited Stanley with winning the title following this win.

Although Moran had lost he continued to challenge all England at the weight, while claiming to still be the English champion.
