1904-02-01 (102lbs) Frank Morcombe w pts 15 Jim Exall, International AC, Marylebone, London, England. Referee: Joe Steers. Contested at 102lbs, this was a return match, the previous affair being decided in Exall’s favour. This time round, Morcombe, by doing some good early work, made sure that he would not be left with too much to do in the latter rounds. There was hard hitting on both sides, and notwithstanding a brilliant effort on behalf of Exall in the last two sessions Morcombe was awarded the decision. Although no weights or title billing were given at the time, in later years Morcombe stated that he won the English 102lbs title in this one, despite Exall continuing to claim that he was the rightful champion.

A day later, Morcombe was challenged by Bill Smith, the Canadian champion, prior to Young Bill Smith (April) and Smokey Bishop (February 1905) claiming to be the English champions at the weight.
